A 1000g (1kg) bag of sintered glass Biomedia formed into tubes with a unique 'cog' like cross section to maximise easy flow patterns in your filter.

Sintered glass offers the largest surface area for bacterial colonisation of any bio media on the market today.

Bionood Excel works anywhere where regular Aqua One Bionoodles have been used or, for that matter, any other more traditional bio media. Completely safe in any coldwater, tropical or marine environment, just rinse and use.

What is sintered glass filter media?

Sintered glass filter media was originally developed for use in super critical laboratory environments where only the best filtration would do. Over time it has found its way into aquarium filtration, though usually at much higher prices than we are charging.

Sintered glass looks and feels like a ceramic material not like regular glass. It is not smooth but rough feeling because it is so porous, it will not splinter or shatter and is completely safe for use in any aquarium. The real value of sintered glass filter media is that it offers a stunningly large surface area for useful filtration bacteria to colonise making your set up more stable, improving water quality, enabling you to have more fish and feed them well.

How is Excel Sintered Glass Bio Media Packaged?

In order to keep prices low, we buy both Bionood Excel and Excel Chips in large quantities we then fill simple plastic bags with the weight required by our customers. There is very little packaging involved, which saves our customers money and no instructions are necessary – just rinse briefly in a little water and replace whatever bio media you were using before. Its as simple as that. Excel sintered glass filter media doesn’t take up any more space than your previous filter media, but it is lighter (making it easier to handle) and offers a huge surface area.

Should I order Bionood Excel or Excel Chips?

It’s hard to go wrong here as both work extremely well. If your filter already contains Aqua One Bionoodles you will find that BioNood Excel makes an excellent, much improved, substitute – it is around the same size and shape. If you require the maxiumum or space is limited, then Excel chips will maximise the space you have. But, as we say, this is an upgrade where you can’t really go wrong.

How do I go about changing my biomedia from ceramic media to Excel Sintered Glass?

The trick when changing filter media is to include a few pieces of the old biomedia in amongst the new stuff so that the good bacteria can transfer to their new homes quickly. Monitor water quality with care at this time and consider reducing feeding for a while until you are certain all is well. After a few weeks the pieces of older biomedia may be removed if you so wish, making your transfer to superior sintered glass bio filtration complete.

Which Aqua One filters will Bionood Excel and Excel Chips work well with?

The easy answer is just about all of them! Bionood Excel was designed as a superior Bionoodle substitute so goes straight into Aqua One Aqua Nano 25, Aqua Nano 30, Aqua Nano 40 and Aqua Nano 60. Bionood Excel also works brilliantly in all the Aqua One Aqua Style and AR series aquariums such as the AR380, AR510, AR620, AR620T, AR850 and AR980.

The Aqua One Aquis (CF) Canister filters work really well with both Bionood Excel or Excel chips – take your pick. This includes the CF500, the CF700, the CF1000 and the largest CF1200.

The Aqua One Advance Canister filters ship with both Bionood Excel and Excel chips, this applies to the Advance 550, Advance 750, the Advance 1050 and the Advance 1250.

Naturally you can also utilise Excel Bionood and Excel Chips with Aqua One’s latest Ocellaris range of external filters including the Aqua One Ocellaris 400, Ocellaris 850, Ocellaris 850UV, Ocellaris 1400, Ocellaris 1400UV and Ocellaris 3000UV.
