Compatibility

The Aqua One 106c Carbon Filter Cartridge fits the Aqua One Ecostyle 61 Aquarium where it is used in pairs. The Aqua One 108c Carbon and Polymer Wool Cartridge fits the Aqua One Ecostyle 81 Aquarium where it is again used in pairs.

Design Criteria

The high value nature of Aqua One’s new Ecostyle Range meant that the multi-media, multi-layer filtration approach of more expensive ranges could not be accommodated so a new three layer cartridge was developed for the Ecostyle aquariums which incorporates polymer wool to trap solids, activated carbon to purify and sponge to trap courser solids and culture essential filtration bacteria. Different sizes of the same cartridge design are used throughout the Ecostyle range.

Pack size

The 106c and 108c is supplied by Aqua One in Packs of two. We also have high value multi packs such as twin (four cartridges) and triple packs (six cartridges). Larger quantities are also available from our extensive warehouse stock.

Capability

Situated in the overhead trickle filter fitted to the Ecostyle 61 Aquarium and Ecostyle 81 Aquarium the filter cartridges lie face down so that the sponge layer is uppermost. As aquarium water is sprayed over them this first layer traps larger solid waste and cultures nitrifying filtration bacteria. The water then flows over and through the activated carbon granules where dissolved waste and acids are removed leaving the water free from contamination and, finally, the bonded polymer wool layer gives the water a final polish leaving it pristine before it returns to the aquarium.

Expected Life Span

The Aqua One 106c and 108c have an effective working life of between four to eight weeks with six weeks being average. The lifespan of the cartridge is impacted by the quantity of waste matter, both dissolved and solid that the cartridges are asked to cope with. The top foam layer may be rinsed clean in a little aquarium water during this time but the polymer wool and carbon section cannot be rinsed and should be discarded when blocked.

Exclusive Extra Filtration

We note that both the Ecostyle 61 Aquarium and Ecostyle 81 Aquarium feature trickle filters with lots of unused space. We have therefore managed to source some exclusive Bio balls made from recycled plastic which will greatly enhance the biological capacity of both aquariums without adding the weight of the filter or making clean outs much harder as a ceramic material might do. We suggest a single pack of thirty for the Ecostyle 61 Aquarium and a double pack of sixty Bio balls for the Ecostyle 81. The Bio balls are designed to grow a rich culture of helpful filtration bacteria on them and should last for the life of the aquarium.
